My strategy: start off by getting more droids. I have 50. A good way to get them is by using the skull chest in the skull maze. the Termination boon gives 10 EMP grenades and a droid. If you need spirit orbs. Go to a corner of the map and cut it off from the mainland (I had 5 tiles of water in between).

There's not really a need to go into the void until the end game. Make sure you unlock all islands and complete all puzzles and dungeons first. Check the wandering merchant to purchase legendary gems and void steel whenever possible. Unlock all the skills. You can get potions super easily on one of the island unlocks or in one of the dungeons.
