Purchased the 2 quarts of Honda diff fluid, both crush washers and a cheap fluid pump from Tractor Supply. I decided to try it without jacking up the car and it is doable but very tight. Rear Differential: Honda branded VTM-4 Fluid ONLY. You may also want to flush your coolant, in which case I would stick with the Honda branded radiator coolant.

Pull bottom plug to drain, then replace. Pull top to fill. When servicing these units, you do fill them to the top of the FILL hole.The VTM-4 rear has electronically controlled clutches to distribute torque as necessary. I would do some research on type of fluid to use and have a rock solid reason not to use the correct Honda fluid. Actually, I'd just use Honda fluid and change maybe 1/3 more often than the manual recommends.Oh no, the rear diff is leaking. The VTM-4 unit on the Ridgeline is NOT AN OPEN DIFFERENTIAL BY MECHANICAL DEFINITION. It has no planet gears. Therefore, the same rules don't apply. Braking an individual rear wheel would simply result in wasting power through heating of the brake and clutch pack on the wheel being braked. Instead of transferring power, it would dissipate power.

Either change can be done by you with minimal labor. There are lots of write ups here to assist.
