At the time, I had about 8k fleet power (thanks to my overlord's hand-me-downs). So I attacked the dragon but my fleet didn't even scratch its armor. I only lost 2 corvettes thanks to emergency FTL. An easy trick here is to double up this origin with the reanimator civic, allowing you to kill the dragon, scan the body to unlock the dragon-scale armor technology, and then bring the dragon back to life to serve in your fleets.
