If it binds, you could be interfering with the clutch action, and could pull the hose from it's fittings, creating a leak, and no clutch action/shifting. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar. Section 16-78 covers inspection, removal, and installation of a new sensor.
