The Remington 48 Sportsman is a nice gun but it does not have the speed load feature and magazine cutoff that Browning introduced on the Auto 5 circa 1953. I have no clue why Val Browning didn’t redesign the Auto-5 to fix these problems because he lived for over four decades after the 1148 came out and it would have been a fairly easy fix.When the gun fires, the bolt and barrel recoil aft and the white and blue shells follow. They don't go far because when the barrel moved out of battery the Cartridge Stop moved into White's path. The returning barrel moves the Cartridge Stop back flush with the receiver and White and Blue continue aft until White's rim hits the Carrier Latch.

Pull the keeper out of the mag tube being carefull of the spring tension. swab the tube out real good, make sure the follower is slipping nice and free the length of the tube, put a little lube on it and reassemble. Browning Auto 5 problems. I just picked up a 1950 Auto 5 that seems to have multiple problems. It won't eject fired shells and when you manually eject... the next shell feeds but the one in line afterwards dumps out the bottom. The A5 cycled 1-ounce target loads with no problem as well as 1 ¼-ounce steel and steel and bismuth HeviHammer ammunition.

For shooters having problems with post 2012 A5 ejecting,extracting. Browning has a new bolt head and extractor. This is a new design got it from Mid West Gun works the part # B1182200A7 and it's cheaper than original. Gun works now no problems. The original bolt extractor has been discontinued.

Set the single ring down by your reciever on the mag tube. keep the wide one with the bronze bushing up by your mag tube cap. That is how you set up for light loads.
