With talks of the remake not being tossed in the trash, it had me thinking how a remake could flow with canon with very minor changes. I think with a few key points the story could remain largely unchanged and still provide some insight into the sith within canon, KOTOR 1 would remain pretty much the same, while its sequels would be entirely different from what we got in KOTOR 2.
Revan was written by bioware to be default female. And Obsidian reinforced this. People wer eactually upset when Leeland chee declared Revan to be a white male as the canon version and then ,when people complained they made the exile, who was also written to be a man, a woman, completely reversing the genders Revan and Exile were meant to be. 2.What would not make sense to me is, knowing that the light side ending for KOTOR is the canon one, is the amount of light side/dark side changes Revan endured. Jedi (before Mandalorian Wars) -> Sith (along Malak, after the Mandalorian wars) - > Jedi (KOTOR Canon ending) -> Sith. So, you see, the KOTOR Remake won’t be canon. It’ll be Legends. But the reason for it being Legends is largely why you want it to be canon: it takes place so far away from the movies, it won’t impact any existing story. I've already played this game twice and I feel like playing through the real story of Revan and his return to the light side. I know now that canonically it goes Tatooine-Kashyyyk-Manaan-Korriban, and he does romance Bastila (didn't need a guide to try that though).
Even if KotOR games are no longer canon (which means that they have no part in current canon continuity), they are still part of "Legends" continuity, where there is still a canon for legends stuff. BTW Male Light Side Revan was established in the New Essential Chronology which was released in 2005, long time before SWTOR.

KotOR II for sure, I could play KotOR I without any problems, even without any patch... In KotOR II I just can't get past a god damn turbolift to enter the fuel mining depot during the first mission, game keeps locking up on loading screens or CTD's at random during the game and after days of torture getting the game to actually play with sound....
Canon for KOTOR 1 would be LS male, canon for KOTOR 2 would be LS female. However, having played both games with both genders I would argue that both games are designed around the player being a male, or at least are a little better playing as a male. Handmaiden is a better character than the Disciple imo.
In 2014, Disney rebooted Star Wars canon to make way for the Sequel Trilogy.
