Go to the right front of the engine, and look above the distributor drive, and below the head for a flat boss. Approx. 2" long, 3/8" to 1/2" tall. Serial number is stamped there. If it is the original block, you're gold. It may take some cleaning, but the numbers are there. Once you find the numbers, use these to determine the year.

bob. Diener's plates are the best. They are made nearest to the original patterns. Call and talk to them, they might make you one even if you don't have your original. Plates from other places don't come close to looking "right" usually because of the engraving.
